Sumith Liyanage
With expertise spanning guitar, saxophone, bass guitar, recorder, and flute, Mr. Liyanage brings versatility and a wealth of knowledge to his role as a music educator. Holding a diploma in Western music at the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, he has a strong foundation in both music theory and performance.
Mr. Liyanage’s career includes 30 years of experience with guitar and saxophone, along with a notable tenure as a band master for the Sri Lanka Police band. His teaching experience includes instructing students at Royal College in music theory up to Grade 8, a role in which he expertly guided students through structured learning pathways. Additionally, his work as a saxophone and guitar instructor at the Overseas School of Colombo reflects his dedication to sharing his passion for music with diverse groups of students.
An accomplished arranger, he creates music for Military Bands, Jazz Bands, Symphony Orchestra, and Oriental Orchestra, showcasing his creativity and skill in composition. With 15 years at Amarillo, Mr. Liyanage continues to inspire aspiring musicians, fostering their talents and nurturing a love for music. His dedication and multifaceted expertise make him an invaluable contributor to the music community.
